Walker Scobell Unveils 'Percy Jackson' Season 3 Footage at D23, Confirms Nov. 20 Premiere

Walker Scobell took the stage at D23: The Ultimate Disney Fan Event to give fans their first extended look at Season 3 of "Percy Jackson and the Olympians," as Disney+ confirmed the new season will premiere Nov. 20, according to Variety.

Scobell, who plays the title character Percy Jackson, appeared at the Disney Entertainment Showcase inside the Honda Center in Anaheim, California, where he introduced two new castmembers to the crowd: Andra Day as Athena and Ming-Na Wen as Hera, according to ABC30 Fresno. The three then presented the first footage from the upcoming season. The event, part of a multi-day gathering of official Disney fan club members at the Anaheim Convention Center and Honda Center, ran through the weekend and included showcases for other Disney film and television projects.

Disney+ separately released the season's first official trailer, which leans into the darker, higher-stakes tone producers have promised for this chapter of the series. In the trailer, Percy is haunted by a dream tied to what fans of Rick Riordan's books know as the Great Prophecy. "Something bad is coming," Percy says in a voiceover featured in the footage, according to Variety.

The official synopsis released alongside the trailer lays out the season's central conflict: when Annabeth is captured by the forces of the Titan Kronos, Percy must undertake a dangerous journey to save her. Along the way, he has to free a goddess who has been chained, confront what the books call the Titan's Curse, and try to prevent the fall of Mount Olympus. Grover Underwood remains at his side, and the group is joined by what the synopsis describes as "unlikely questmates" as they race to fulfill a prophecy with serious consequences.

The season draws its plot from "The Titan's Curse," the third novel in Riordan's bestselling book series, which debuted in 2005 and has sold millions of copies worldwide. The Disney+ adaptation has followed the books roughly in order, with Season 1 covering "The Lightning Thief" and Season 2 adapting "The Sea of Monsters."

A Returning and Expanding Cast

Alongside Scobell, Season 3 brings back Aryan Simhadri as Grover Underwood, Leah Sava Jeffries as Annabeth Chase, Charlie Bushnell as Luke Castellan, Daniel Diemer as Tyson and Dior Goodjohn as Clarisse La Rue, according to Variety. Dafne Keen joins the cast as the goddess Artemis, a key figure in the season's plot given the synopsis's reference to a goddess being held in chains.

The roster of Olympian gods is also expanding. Variety reported that Hubert Smielecki will play Apollo, Kate McKinnon will play Aphrodite and Ming-Na Wen will play Hera. The D23 presentation added another name to that list, with ABC30 Fresno reporting that Andra Day has been cast as Athena, a goddess central to the books given her role as Annabeth's mother. The Athena casting was highlighted specifically during the D23 reveal alongside Scobell, suggesting it may be one of the newer additions to the ensemble beyond what had previously circulated in coverage of the season.

The expanded pantheon reflects how the show continues to widen its scope season over season, introducing more of the gods and mythological figures that populate Riordan's novels as the story moves deeper into its source material.

A Preview Months in the Making

The D23 footage was not fans' first glimpse of Season 3. Variety noted that the show's cast and crew appeared at San Diego Comic-Con in July, where they debuted the first few minutes of the new season. That early footage opened with a battle sequence featuring Thalia Grace fighting a monster. During the Comic-Con panel, Scobell told fans he believed Season 3 would be the most book-accurate adaptation the series has produced so far, a claim that lines up with the season's synopsis, which closely tracks the plot beats of "The Titan's Curse."

The series was created for Disney+ by Riordan alongside Jonathan E. Steinberg, who serves as co-showrunner and executive producer. Craig Silverstein and Dan Shotz also hold executive producer credits, according to Variety. The extensive list of additional executive producers includes Riordan's wife, Rebecca Riordan; the Gotham Group's Ellen Goldsmith-Vein, Jeremy Bell and D.J. Goldberg; Bert Salke; James Bobin; Jim Rowe; Albert Kim; Jason Ensler; and Sarah Watson.

Walker Scobell's D23 appearance came amid a packed night of announcements at the Disney Entertainment Showcase. The same event featured Lisa Kudrow and Mira Sorvino discussing the plot of Hulu's "Romy and Michelle 2," Maia Kealoha announcing a 2028 theatrical release for "Lilo & Stitch 2," and an exclusive clip from the upcoming film "Gatto," starring Mark Ruffalo and Laurence Fishburne, according to ABC30 Fresno.

For "Percy Jackson" fans, though, the headline news out of Anaheim was clear: after a summer tease at Comic-Con, Walker Scobell and his co-stars used the D23 stage to confirm that Season 3 is on track for its Nov. 20 debut on Disney+, setting up what the show's creative team is billing as its darkest and most faithful season yet.
