Pokémon Go trainers have a new reason to head outdoors this month as Nickit Community Day arrives Sunday, Aug. 16, running from 2 to 5 p.m. local time, according to Eurogamer and The Bristol Edition. The Fox Pokémon will flood the wild in far greater numbers than usual, giving players a three-hour window to stock up on candy, hunt for rare stats and chase a brand-new shiny variant before the event ends.
The centerpiece of the day is the debut of shiny Nickit, described by Eurogamer as a silver fox with striking blue ears, eye sockets, paws and tail tips. Its evolution, shiny Thievul, carries the same blue-and-silver color scheme onto its back. Shiny odds are boosted for the duration of Community Day, and both outlets note that using an Incense to draw more Nickit spawns can make the hunt faster. Players are advised to watch for the sparkle effect and shiny icon next to a Pokémon's name to avoid accidentally passing one by.
Beyond the shiny hunt, August's Community Day also gives trainers a shot at a perfect, or "Hundo," Nickit with 15/15/15 individual values. Eurogamer reports that trainers at Level 30 or above should look for a wild catch with 612 CP, or 663 CP if weather boost is active, to land the maxed-out stats prized for the game's Master League and four-star raid rosters.
Exclusive Move Rewards Evolving During the Window
The event's biggest strategic hook is Thievul's exclusive Charged Attack, Icy Wind. Trainers who evolve a Nickit into Thievul during the three-hour Community Day window, or up to four hours afterward, will unlock the Ice-type move on their Thievul, according to both Eurogamer and The Bristol Edition. Eurogamer lists Icy Wind's stats as 60 power for 45 energy in Trainer Battles and 65 power for 33 energy in gyms and raids, with the added benefit of guaranteed lowering the opponent's attack by one stage, a 20 percent reduction that gives it strong value against Dragon-type opponents in the Master League.
Eurogamer recommends trainers hold off on evolving until near the end of Community Day so they can select the Nickit with the best individual values before locking in the move. For competitive teams, the outlet suggests Thievul's ideal build still centers on the Dark-type moves Sucker Punch and Night Slash for Great League play, with Icy Wind becoming a meta-dependent swap for Play Rough depending on whether a trainer's matchups lean more toward Dragon-types like Kingdra and Guzzlord or Flying-types like Fearow and Jumpluff. Thievul's full moveset also includes the fast moves Snarl and Quick Attack alongside Sucker Punch, according to Eurogamer.
Bonuses Split Across Two Different Time Windows
Both outlets stress that Community Day bonuses do not all expire at the same time, a detail that could trip up trainers planning their afternoon. During the core 2 to 5 p.m. window, players receive triple Catch Stardust, double Catch Candy, and double the chance for trainers at Level 31 or above to receive XL Candy from catches, according to The Bristol Edition and Eurogamer. Incense activated within that three-hour window will last a full three hours rather than the standard duration.
Other perks extend well past the main event and remain active until 9 p.m. local time. Lure Modules used before 9 p.m. will last a full hour instead of the usual 30 minutes, and Nickit will have an increased chance of appearing at PokéStops with active Lures during that extended window, with a higher shiny chance and the possibility of special backgrounds, per Eurogamer. Trainers can also make one additional Special Trade and will see trade costs cut by 50 percent in Stardust through 9 p.m.
Field research tasks tied to the event will reward Stardust, Ultra Balls and additional Nickit encounters, some with special seasonal backgrounds, The Bristol Edition reported. The outlet highlighted two standout tasks tied to catching Pokémon while partied up with friends and catching 50 Pokémon during the event, calling them worth prioritizing for trainers playing in groups. Snapping photos with the in-game camera also carries a chance of a surprise Nickit photobomb, giving completionists another small task to chase throughout the afternoon.
A Busy Week Around Community Day
Nickit's spotlight arrives amid a packed stretch of activity in Pokémon Go, according to The Bristol Edition. A Choose Your Path: Venom and Vines event began Tuesday, Aug. 11 at 10 a.m. and runs through Monday, Aug. 17 at 8 p.m., letting trainers pick one of three Timed Research tracks, Explore, Catch or Battle, each built around a different play style. The outlet noted the choice is permanent once selected, so trainers should weigh their preferred approach before committing.
A Wurmple Spotlight Hour was also scheduled for Thursday, Aug. 13 from 6 to 7 p.m., featuring increased Wurmple spawns and double Evolution XP, a combination The Bristol Edition suggested pairs well with Lucky Eggs for trainers pushing toward a new level. Separately, Mega Garchomp has taken over Mega Raids in the days surrounding Community Day, and the outlet noted the debut of Mega Starmie is also expected during the same stretch, giving raid-focused players additional targets alongside the Nickit festivities.
For trainers mapping out Sunday afternoon, The Bristol Edition recommended choosing a walking route that passes multiple PokéStops and Gyms rather than staying put, allowing players to restock Poké Balls, spin Stops and take advantage of Lure Modules throughout the event. The outlet also pointed out that Community Day doubles as a social opportunity, suggesting local trainers coordinate a starting point in advance to turn the shiny hunt into a group outing. With August weather in play, both charging a phone and bringing water were listed as practical must-dos for anyone planning to spend the full three hours outside chasing the Fox Pokémon.
