Oreo Launches Chicken & Waffles, Deep Fried and Banana Pudding Cookies, Lets Fans Vote for 2027 Return

Oreo is rolling out three new limited-edition flavors at once and handing fans the power to decide which one earns a permanent comeback. The cookie brand confirmed to USA Today that Oreo Banana Pudding, Oreo Deep Fried, and Oreo Chicken & Waffles Cookies will launch together, with the winning flavor announced in October and brought back for another limited run in 2027.

All three new Oreo flavors become available for presale starting August 17 at Oreo.com/UnwrapTheCollab and through SnackWorks' TikTok Shop storefront, according to USA Today. The cookies then roll out nationwide to grocery and retail stores on August 24, though only for a limited time and while supplies last.

"By dropping three incredibly distinct flavors at once, Banana Pudding, Deep Fried and Chicken & Waffles, we are giving our community true agency to help decide the future of our product lineup," Matt Foley, vice president of Oreo, said in a news release cited by USA Today. "We know our fans are incredibly passionate about their favorite flavors, and we can't wait to see which of these cookies they choose to bring back in 2027."

How the Voting Works

Fans can cast a vote for their favorite of the three new Oreo flavors by scanning the QR code on any of the limited-edition packages or visiting Oreo.com/twist-lick-vote, per USA Today. Voting runs from August 17 through October 12, and anyone who receives a presale pack or orders through TikTok Shop gets exclusive early access to try the cookies before the general public.

Every submitted vote also enters fans into a sweepstakes for a chance to win a year's supply of original Oreo cookies, USA Today reported, noting that voting does not affect sweepstakes odds and each person is limited to one entry. Oreo will crown the winning flavor on October 13, and that cookie will rejoin the Oreo lineup for a limited time in 2027.

What Each New Flavor Actually Tastes Like

The three flavors take very different approaches, according to tasting notes from Delish and Mashed, both of which sampled the cookies ahead of release.

Oreo Chicken & Waffles Cookies feature a waffle-textured design and a dual-layered creme built around fried chicken and maple syrup flavor notes. Mashed described a strong maple scent hitting first, paired with a distinctly savory, peppery undertone from ingredients including black pepper, celery spice, and paprika. Mashed also noted the cookie contains 70 milligrams of sodium, nearly double the 43 milligrams found in an original Oreo. Delish's tasting team called it the most divisive of the three, with some editors loving the sweet-and-salty combination and others rejecting it outright, though Delish noted the saltiness balanced well against the strong maple flavor.

Oreo Deep Fried Cookies lean into a fried-dough theme, wrapping layers of dark chocolate and fried dough-flavored creme inside fried dough-flavored cookies. Mashed observed that the triple-layer creme essentially mimics a classic Oreo tucked inside an outer shell meant to evoke a deep-fried treat, comparing the texture to a dirt cake dessert where cookies soak up pudding moisture. Delish's team named this their favorite of the three, describing it as rich and chocolatey with a warm, cakey quality reminiscent of boxed chocolate cake mix, and said it was the cookie they kept reaching for during testing.

Oreo Banana Pudding Cookies pair vanilla wafer cookies with a dual-layered creme combining banana and vanilla pudding flavors. Mashed reported that the cookie uses real puréed bananas alongside natural and artificial flavoring, and called it a dead ringer for classic banana pudding dessert, ultimately giving it their vote for an extended run. Delish found the banana flavor intense, leaning closer to banana candy than fresh fruit, which split opinion among testers: some found it too strong, while banana-dessert fans immediately wanted more.

A Brand Known for Pushing Cookie Boundaries

Oreo has built a reputation for unconventional flavor drops, and Mashed pointed out that savory cookies remain rare in the United States even though international markets have seen offerings like Mushroom and Hot Chicken Wings Oreos. The brand has also leaned into pop-culture collaborations this year, including a BTS-themed cookie release, according to Mashed, showing that Oreo's research and development team continues experimenting well beyond the core lineup of chocolate and vanilla wafers.

Mashed's overall verdict was that all three new Oreo flavors work despite their unusual premises, even while acknowledging that Chicken & Waffles and Deep Fried are unlikely to become everyday staples for casual snackers. Delish's team reached a similar conclusion but ultimately threw their support behind Deep Fried, citing its balance of familiar chocolate flavor and novel fried-dough character as the reason it stood out among the group.

For now, the fate of all three cookies rests with shoppers. Whichever flavor collects the most votes by October 12 will be the one Oreo brings back to store shelves in 2027, while the other two limited-edition varieties disappear once current supplies run out. Anyone hoping to taste Chicken & Waffles, Deep Fried, or Banana Pudding Oreos will need to act during the limited window beginning August 24, since the company has been clear that availability will not last.
