Ewan McGregor Eyes Dinosaur-Themed Baby Gift for Pregnant Costar Anne Hathaway

Ewan McGregor has not yet bought a baby gift for his pregnant costar Anne Hathaway, but he already has a playful idea in mind: something dinosaur-themed, inspired by the film that brought them together.

McGregor, 55, spoke with PEOPLE on the red carpet at the world premiere of his new film The End of Oak Street on Sunday, Aug. 9, in Burbank, California. The movie, a dinosaur-filled science-fiction thriller, stars both McGregor and Hathaway, who announced in June that she is expecting her third child with husband Adam Shulman.

Asked whether he had picked out a present for his costar, McGregor was candid about having overlooked the task. "I need to do that," he told PEOPLE. "That was a good reminder. I haven't!" When a reporter floated the idea of tying the gift to the pair's new film, McGregor warmed to the suggestion immediately. "A little stuffed dinosaur or something," he said, according to PEOPLE.

The remark offers a lighthearted glimpse into the camaraderie between the two actors as they promote The End of Oak Street, even as Hathaway juggles a packed press schedule during her pregnancy.

Hathaway's Pregnancy Announcement

Hathaway revealed she was expecting again in a video posted to her Instagram on June 19. In the clip, the actress walked into frame wearing a flowy white dress, cradled her stomach, smiled, and then ran off camera. She captioned the post, "x Baby, I'm yours x."

The pregnancy will mark the third child for Hathaway and Shulman, who are already parents to two sons: Jonathan, 10, and Jack, 6. Both PEOPLE and the Express Tribune confirmed these details of the family's existing children in their coverage of McGregor's comments.

An insider previously told PEOPLE that Hathaway has been approaching this stage of her life and career with gratitude rather than complaint. "She's grateful for where she is in her career and for the opportunity to be part of a film that means so much to so many people," the source said. "Complaining just isn't Anne. She approaches things with gratitude and professionalism, and that's exactly how she handled the press tour." The insider added that Hathaway is currently "focused on family and enjoying a little downtime," even as she continues to promote her film slate, which includes The Odyssey and the upcoming Verity.

A Second Movie-Inspired Gift

McGregor's dinosaur idea would not be the first entertainment-themed gift Hathaway has received during this pregnancy. On July 16, she appeared on Today alongside her The Odyssey costar Tom Holland, where she was surprised with a baby gift inspired by that film: a hand-knitted Trojan-themed outfit for her incoming child.

Hathaway was visibly moved by the gesture. "This is so cute," she said, holding back tears, before asking, "Who is talented enough to make all of this?" She went on to call the gift "appropriately epic," thanking those responsible and calling the outfit "amazing."

Taken together, the Trojan-themed onesie and McGregor's proposed stuffed dinosaur suggest a pattern of Hathaway's Hollywood collaborators marking her growing family with nods to the projects they've shared. For a film industry veteran juggling multiple high-profile releases while expecting a third child, the gestures also underscore the close working relationships she has built on set.

The End of Oak Street and Hathaway's Busy Slate

The End of Oak Street, which held its world premiere in Burbank on Aug. 9, centers on a dinosaur-filled science-fiction storyline and features McGregor and Hathaway as costars. Details about the plot beyond its dinosaur and sci-fi elements were not extensively covered in the red carpet interviews, but the premiere itself served as the backdrop for McGregor's comments about a potential gift.

Hathaway's schedule this year has been notably full. Beyond The End of Oak Street, she has been promoting The Odyssey, the Christopher Nolan-directed epic in which she stars opposite Tom Holland, and she is set to appear later this year in Verity, an adaptation drawing attention ahead of its release. Despite the demands of back-to-back promotional commitments, the insider who spoke to PEOPLE indicated that Hathaway has managed to keep her focus on her family as she prepares for her third child's arrival.

For now, McGregor's gift remains an idea rather than a purchase. His admission that he "hasn't" yet bought anything, paired with his enthusiasm once prompted with the dinosaur concept, paints a picture of two busy actors bonding over their shared project even as their attention turns to the personal milestones happening off camera. Whether the stuffed dinosaur actually makes its way to Hathaway remains to be seen, but McGregor left little doubt on the Burbank red carpet that the idea had struck a chord with him.
