Microsoft is loading up the August 2026 Xbox Game Pass lineup with a mix of early access betas, major sports titles and dozens of smaller indie releases, giving subscribers across Game Pass Ultimate, Game Pass Premium and PC Game Pass plenty to play before the month ends, according to CNET and Xbox Wire.
The headline addition is early access to the Gears of War: E-Day open beta, which CNET reports is available now for Xbox Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass subscribers. E-Day is the first mainline entry in the long-running sci-fi shooter series since Gears 5 launched nearly seven years ago, and while the full game isn't due out until October 6, the beta lets players jump into player-versus-player Versus matches as well as a new Horde Siege mode. According to CNET, Horde Siege reimagines the franchise's cooperative Horde mode for larger maps, bigger player counts and larger-scale battles against the game's alien Locust-style enemies. Fans wanting the complete experience will still need to wait roughly two more months for release day.
Sports fans have their own reason to pay attention this month. EA Sports Madden NFL 27 arrives August 13, optimized for Xbox Series X and Series S, according to Xbox Wire. Subscribers with EA Play access can start a 10-hour early trial and receive an EA Play Welcome Pack to help build a roster before deciding whether to buy the full game. Xbox Wire notes that any progress made during the trial carries over if players purchase the full title, and that Madden NFL 27 can be played through xCloud cloud streaming, PC Game Pass or Xbox Game Pass Ultimate with EA Play included. Those who pre-order the Deluxe Edition get three days of early access starting August 10.
Another notable arrival is Date Everything!, a dating simulator with a comedic twist that lets players pursue romantic relationships with more than a hundred household objects, each voiced by a different actor. CNET reports the game lands on Game Pass Ultimate, Game Pass Premium and PC Game Pass on August 11. It's a lighter counterpoint to the war-torn intensity of E-Day and reflects Game Pass's continued strategy of pairing blockbuster shooters with quirky, low-stakes indie experiments.
Ball x Pit, which blends brick-breaking arcade action with base-building and roguelite survival mechanics, expands its reach on August 12 when it becomes available on Game Pass Premium, according to CNET. The title was previously accessible only to Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass subscribers, so its move to the mid-tier Premium plan opens it up to a broader slice of the subscriber base.
Game Preview titles and genre variety
Several games are entering Game Pass in preview form this month, meaning they remain in active development. Grounded 2, the survival sequel to Obsidian's shrink-em-down adventure, comes to Game Pass Premium on August 11 as a game preview title, having previously been available only on Ultimate and PC Game Pass, CNET reports.
